Toppa on top of the Sugar Cube takes street food to another level

Opening on the top floor of the Kanavaranta 1 office building, restaurant Toppa brings a new and unique addition to Helsinki's restaurant offering. The restaurant is fronted by restaurateur and chef Tommi Tuominen, awarded with two Michelin stars. In his newest endeavor Toppa, he will skillfully combine two different worlds – high-quality ingredients known from fine dining culture and carefully honed recipes and impeccable street food.

The office building “Sugar cube” designed by Alvar Aalto in Kanavaranta offers an iconic and timeless setting for the new restaurant. According to Tuominen, Aalto's human-oriented design philosophy also provided inspiration for Topa's concept, after all, it's hard to imagine a food style simpler than street food.

"The restaurant will definitely be something different from what has been expected of me. Street food has been close to my heart ever since I lived in Hong Kong, and tasted all the specialties that were available. Now I finally have the opportunity to pay tribute to the style of food I value so much," describes Tuominen.

 

Casual, stylish street food for lunch and dinner with exceptional city and sea views

Restaurant Topa's name goes back to the traditional sokeritoppa, referring to the restaurant's location in “Sokeripala” (Sugar Cube). On the other hand, the name also has a natural connection to the restaurant's location at the top of the office building – and the city. The building's sixth floor offers unique views in many directions, to the sea, the Market Square and Uspenski Cathedral.

The restaurant will serve diners from Monday to Saturday for both lunch and dinner. Tuominen says that in addition to a lunch worth a lunch voucher, the restaurant offers a three-course lunch menu for a more experiential dining experience.

On the other hand, at dinner time, the menu will have a great mix of familiar street food flavors from around the world, supplemented with more exotic options.

In addition, the restaurant offers meeting services and private cabinets for meetings, business lunches and dinner parties.

 

High-quality street food from around the world and the city's most attractive after work

With Restaurant Topa, Tuominen, known for his fine dining restaurants, also brings his handprint to street food prepared with piety, drawing influences from street food culture around the world.

The restaurant's menu is based on high-quality ingredients, and in addition, the purchases emphasize the domesticity and ethics of the ingredients. Vegetarian food options are also coming to the list to meet the wishes of those who appreciate delicious vegetarian food.

Toppa also offers a unique setting for relaxed after work, where the uncomplicated atmosphere is sealed by the restaurant's own cocktail bar and a large roof terrace in the maritime heart of the historic center of Helsinki.

 

"Our cocktail bar serves customers with delicious drinks, and a leather wall designed by Aalto makes it worthwhile to visit us even from afar. The cozy terrace with bars and DJs will be a real gem in Helsinki's restaurant offering. After we open, we will also organize many kinds of events in the restaurant."
